Belfast’s Ryan Burnett is the new WBO Bantamweight European champion after stopping Robert Kanalas in the second round of their clash in Manchester on Saturday night.
Burnett - who will now fight Jason Booth for the British title in London on November 23- had just too much firepower for Kanalas and had him down three times in the second round before the fight was stopped.
And Burnett was pleased to win his first fight as a professional.
“As they say ‘you don’t get paid for over-time in this game,’ so I went in there and got the job done.
“I knew as soon as I hit him the first time, that I could nail him but the key thing was to stay relaxed and settle into the fight and that’s what I did.
“Since I moved to Adam Booth, he has had a plan for me and it is going really well,” he added.
And Burnett is looking forward to fighting Booth for the British title.
“He is an experienced campaigner and knows his way round a boxing ring. But I will win that fight,” he added.
