Instonians have signed the former South Africa all-rounder Juan (Rusty) Theron as their overseas player for 2016.
The Shaw’s Bridge Club have secured the signature of the 30-year-old, continuing the theme of stellar South Africans coming to the NCU next summer.
Theron played four One Day Internationals and nine Twenty20 internationals, the last of which came in 2012.
He has been a superb performer in the South African domestic scene and he also played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with Kings XI Punjab, Rajasthan Royals and Deccan Chargers.
Inst will hope Theron can emulate the achievements of Imad Wasim, the 2014 professional who helped them lift the NCU Premier League title in stunning fashion.
Wasim was due to return last summer, but on the eve of the new season the left-arm spinner was selected for the full Pakistan senior squad. Wasim has gone on to establish himself as a regular member of Pakistan’s ODI squad.
Theron will be joining his fellow countrymen Pieter Malan, Justin Kemp and Heinrich Klaasen in the NCU Premier League next season.
Waringstown, the reigning champions, are set to announce their 2016 professional in the coming week.
An Instonians spokesman said: “We tried to sign Rusty four years ago when Davy Jacobs, our then professional, got injured. At that stage visas were the issue but we are delighted to have Rusty on board this time and we look forward to welcoming him to Shaw’s Bridge next April.
“Davy Jacobs was instrumental in getting the deal over the line.”
