England have called uncapped Somerset all-rounder Craig Overton into the squad for the Royal London one-day series as cover for the injured Chris Jordan.
Jordan, whose figures of one for 97 against New Zealand on Friday were the second worst by an England player in one-day history, has a side injury and will be assessed before the third match on Sunday.
“Craig Overton has been called up as cover while we wait for an update on Chris Jordan’s side injury,” read a tweet from @englandcricket.
The call-up for Overton comes as something of a surprise as Northamptonshire all-rounder David Willey is already in the squad, although he has not featured in either of the opening two matches.
The 21-year-old Overton has played 15 List A matches for Somerset, averaging 54.20 with the ball and 10.54 with the bat.
The Royal London series is tied at 1-1 with England and New Zealand facing each other at the Rose Bowl on Sunday.
