Instonians captain Neil Russell smashed 48 from just 29 balls against his former club North Down on Friday night to set up a mouthwatering double-header against Waringstown this weekend.

North Down scraped just 99 for eight in 20 overs and Instonians romped home by seven wickets with more than six overs to spare. Russell slammed four fours and three sixes, with all three maximums coming off spinner James Cameron-Dow.

Earlier seamer Stephen Bunting and spinners Ben Wylie, Andrew White, Imad Wasim and Zach Rushe all took two wickets each as the North Down innings faltered from the start.

Taimur Khan top scored with 26 and the crucial moment was a superb catch on the boundary from Eric Layard to remove Ryan Haire, who had struck two sixes in his 21.

At Shaw’s Bridge: North Down 99-8 (T Khan 26, R Haire 21, S Bunting 2-20, B Wylie 2-16, A White 2-21, Z Rushe 2-20). Instonians 100-3, 13.2 overs (N Russell 48, CJ Muir 2-12), Instonians won by seven wickets.
