Players from Leinster Lightning, North-West Warriors and Northern Knights have launched Cricket Ireland’s premier men’s domestic competition, the 2016 Hanley Energy Inter-Provincial Series, at the energy-management company’s head office in Co. Meath.

The fourth edition of the annual tournament, which sees the three teams competing across three formats of the game, gets under way on Monday, May 2 with the Northern Knights hosting defending champions the Leinster Lightning at Stormont in the Hanley Energy 50-over Cup.

Hanley Energy, Official Technology Partner to Cricket Ireland, have extended their partnership with Cricket Ireland for a further two years, and Clive Gilmore, CEO Hanley Energy, is looking forward to an action packed summer ahead: “Dedicated to partnering with world-class achievers Hanley Energy is proud to align itself with Cricket Ireland. Recognising a shared vision we are delighted to be able to champion excellence and nurture real international potential.”

One of the key components of Cricket Ireland’s Strategic Plan is to build on the progress of the previous editions of the Inter-Pros and to strengthen them. Dennis Cousins, Commercial Director Cricket Ireland, highlighted the importance of the Hanley Energy’s involvement in the Inter-Provincial Series in assisting Cricket Ireland’s strategic aims: “The Hanley Energy Inter-Provincial series is the bridge between club and country and showcases the best of Irish cricket talent throughout the season. Cricket Ireland are greatly appreciative of the support from Hanley Energy which enables us to make each series bigger, better and more competitive.

“We’re also delighted to be working with Hanley Energy as the Official Technology Partner to Cricket Ireland and our international teams for a further two years. The leadership and global growth of Hanley Energy have been very impressive and Cricket Ireland look forward to continuing to support their ambitious plans long into the future.”

Leinster Lightning completed the clean sweep of three trophies in 2015, winning the Hanley Energy Championship, 50-over Cup & 20-over Trophy, but will face stiff competition from the Warriors and Knights across all three formats.

The action gets under way on Monday at Stormont at 10.45am, and admission is free.
