The wet weather claimed another cricketing victim last night as the opening fixture of this season’s Lagan Valley Steels Twenty20 cup was washed out.

No play was possible at The Green between holders North Down and Instonians after The Green was hit by a heavy shower which included hail stones.

The fixture has been rescheduled for May 21. There are three game in the competition tonight with Waringstown due to host Lisburn and Civil Service North facing Muckamore at Stormont.

Both those matches are in Group A with Ballymena taking on CIYMS in Group B.

The second round draw of the RSA Bob Kerr Irish Cup took place yesterday even though just five teams are definitely through.

That number will be six if Eglinton fail in their appeal to award Saturday’s tie to North Down, who have been drawn at home to the winner of Brigade against Phoenix.

North West champions Coleraine are likely to host Dublin YMCA in round two, with the Dubliners having first to see off Downpatrick.

Draw: Terenure/Waringstown v Instonians/Railway Union; North Down v Phoenix/Brigade; Coleraine v Downpatrick/YMCA; Merrion/Muckamore v Ardmore/North County; Leinster/Fox Lodge v Clontarf; Pembroke v Cork County; St Johnston/CSNI v Strabane/Lurgan; Glendermott/The Hills v Bready. Ties to be played on Saturday, June 8.

The National Cup second round draw also took place. It was as follows: Laois/Sion Mills v Ballyspallen/Malahide; Ballaghaderreen v Co. Galway; Cliftonville/Bonds Glen v Balbriggan/Newbuildings; Drummond/Bangor v Carrickfergus/North Kildare; Templepatrick/Mullingar v Dundrum/Holywood; Civil Service Dublin v Co. Sligo/Limerick Raiders; Burndennett/Woodvale v Co. Clare; Derriaghy/Creevedonnell v Killyclooney/Rush.
