B’MALLARD 3 W’POINT 3
Ballinamallard United came from behind twice to secure a final day league point against Warrenpoint.
The point secures ninth place in the Danske Bank Premier League after Dungannon’s defeat earlier in the day.
The Ferney Park side started confidently opening the scoring after nine minutes when John Currie went on a good run before releasing Liam Martin. Martin raced through to shoot home into the far corner with his right foot.
Warrenpoint were level though after 18 minutes when Daniel Hughes scored from the penalty spot after Johnny Frazer was taken down by defender Gary Phair.
‘Point took the lead on 26 minutes when the home side failed to clear in their 18 yard box and Frazer turned on the six yard line to shoot home past keeper Adam Murphy.
In the second half Ballinamallard levelled when Courtney curled a lovely ball with the outside of his right foot to find Campbell on a well timed run. The striker expertly lobbed the visiting keeper Marron to level.
But within a minute ‘Point had restored their lead. They broke down the right flank and when the ball was pulled back from the byline Daniel Hughes was on hand on the six yard line to stab home off the post.
The Ferney Park side pushed for an equaliser and it was Steve Feeney who delivered, heading home from a Courtney corner on 84 minutes.
Ballinamallard manger Whitey Anderson said, “I’m just glad we got something out of the game. We scored three good goals, but the goals we gave away were shocking.
“I felt in the first half we played all the football and had a lot of possession. At 1-0 I couldn’t see them scoring, but some of our defending was abysmal, but we kept going and got level in the end. It was good to come back twice.
