Ballymena United boss Glenn Ferguson faces an early crisis ahead of next week’s Danske Premiership opener against Linfield at Windsor Park on Saturday, August 8.
Skipper Allan Jenkins is almost certain miss the visit to the newly vamped international arena after sustaining ankle ligament damage in a recent friendly game against Ballyclare Comrades.
“Allan’s ankle is still badly swollen,” said Ferguson. “We will have to wait until the swelling subsides before we know the full extent of the injury.
“At this moment in time, it’s not looking too clever for him.”
But it got even worse for Ferguson because hard tackling defender Johnny Taylor was dismissed along with Comrades’ Randal Reid, following an ‘off the ball incident’ which allegedly involved a head butt!
It is understood the referee will report the controversial bust-up to the IFA.
Should former Glentoran man Taylor be found guilty by the Discipline Committee he may well be looking at a six game ban.
Meanwhile, Cliftonville boss Tommy Breslin has snapped up 19 year old goalkeeper Peter Burke.
Formerly on the books of Sunderland, the Donegal man, who has represented the Republic of Ireland at Under-17 and Under-19 level, has impressed Breslin after appearing in a number of pre-season friendly fixtues.
Breslin boys kick-off their league campaign away to Gary Hamilton’s Glenavon.
