On Saturday, Jamie McGonigle grabbed an injury time winner against Ards to move into fifth place, while last week, a late Jordan Allen goal secured a point against Ballymena United.

The former Linfield midfielder said; “I could list a few reasons, but to be honest, I would just be guessing.

“I could say it’s a mindset or a mentality, and perhaps it is. We train at a high tempo, so maybe that has an impact.

“It’s a nice trait to have, but a goal in the first minute is as valuable as a goal in the 90th minute.”

Coleraine broke the deadlock in the 65th when Ian Parkhill sent over a fine cross to the back post that Darren McAuley volleyed home in spectacular fashion.

Ards equalised four minutes later when Craig McMillen’s corner-kick picked out Joe McKinney at the back-post. The linesman awarded the goal even though it appeared that Neil McCafferty had headed the ball off the line.

Ards were reduced to 10 men in the 75th minute when Emmet Friars picked up a second yellow card for a halfway line foul.

The Bannsiders found a winner in the first minute of stoppage time when sub Jamie McGonigle burst down the left-flank, before cutting into the box and curling a low effort into the far corner of Hogg’s net.

Ards boss Currie believes Emmet Friars’ indiscipline cost his side a point.

Currie fumed; “We can’t keep getting players sent off and expect to pick up points.

“In July, if you had told me that we would get 16 points from our first 11 games I would have been delighted.

“But we could have achieved more if it was for some of the silly red cards and suspension we have picked up.

“I don’t want to single Emmet out, but we were comfortable at 1-1.

“His red card put us under a lot of pressure.

“We keep going to the well, but sometimes you will find the well is empty.

“That’s what happened against Coleraine. We had already lost two midfielders to injury, so to pick up a red card in the second half really hurt us.

“The lads gave their all and fought to the end but when you are down to ten minute it makes it very difficult to play the way you want.”
