Crusaders midfielder Richard Clarke’s impressive performances have earned him the BT Sport Player of the Month for January.
The former Newry City and Glentoran playmaker enjoyed a stellar month in helping the Seaview side open up a seven-point lead at the top of the Danske Bank Premiership before they were held to a draw on the last day of the month by Dungannon Swifts.
The Shore Road men were in scintillating form prior to their stalemate at Stangmore Park.
Clarke and his team-mates enjoyed victories over Linfield, Ballinamallard United and Glentoran.
The highlight of the month was a superb 6-0 thrashing of title rivals Portadown when Clarke was at his influential best. Crusaders also won their fifth round Irish Cup tie against Newington last month setting up today’s third meeting of the season against Championship leaders Bangor.
It is 29-year-old Clarke’s first monthly award and one that highlights the impressive run Crusaders have been on in recent weeks.
