Gormley pounced on a loose ball midway through the first half to poach his 26th goal of the season, and his fourth in his last three games.

“Strikers are simply judged on one thing and one alone, it doesn’t matter if it’s in my team or any other team,” said Gray at full time.

“When Joe’s opportunity came today he put it in the net.

“If he plays like that every week, and scores goals like that every week, I’ll be more than delighted. Joe has been fantastic for us over the last couple of games in particular.

“It’s great credit to him, and I still think we’ll even more from him coming into the bigger games from now until the end of the season.”
