A brace of goals on his home debut against Drogheda saw Anthony Elding enjoy prominence at the Brandywell last night.

And it was a thoroughly deserving victory for the Candystripes who produced a disciplined performance to bounce back from Tuesday’s defeat at St. Pat’s.

Elding put Derry into the driving seat in the ninth minute when he dived low to direct Mark Timlin’s cross past Michael Schlingermann.

But the goal of the game was netted in the 39th minute when Barry McNamee’s left foot strike crashed into the net after a wayward clearance from Joe Gorman, the Donegal lad finding the net from 25 yards.

The game was ended as a contest when teenager, Josh Daniels, appeared to have been pushed to the ground when inside the area by Jason Marks in the 75th minute and referee, Rob Rogers pointed to the spot.
