Carrick Rangers boss Gary Haveron has demanded more bite from his players following last week’s toothless display at Seaview.
Carrick crashed to a 5-0 defeat against champions Crusaders, with Paul Heatley scoring four goals in an alarmingly one-sided contest on the Shore Road.
Now Haveron is seeking a quick tonic to get Rangers’ Premiership campaign back on track.
“We have to bounce back quickly. We have Portadown next and that is another big test,” Haveron said.
“Portadown are coming off the back of a defeat so they will want to get a win under their belts.
“We are at home and we have to make home advantage count. We have to restore a little bit of pride in our game after last week’s embarrassing display last week.
“Games against Crusaders won’t define our season, but our goal difference took a battering.
“Most games we have lost have been by the odd goal, so last week’s 5-0 was disappointing.
“You have to be careful with that. We we don’t want it boiling down to goal difference at the end of the season. We know how tight it can be.”
Carrick sit ninth in the table, just two points behind tomorrow’s visitors Portadown.
“We have to be more competitive than we were against Crusaders. And we have been competitive this season apart from last week,” he added.
“So we will lick our wounds and get ready to go again against Portadown. We are at home so we want to make that count.”
