Goals by Andy Waterworth and Guy Bates have set up Linfield for a spot in round two of the Europa League qualifiers.

Warren Feeney’s boys turned in a wonderful performance against NSI Runavik at Windsor Park on Thursday night – and on this showing, will surely finish the job in the Faroe Islands next week.

Waterworth was handed the skipper’s armband for the first time and he responded by volleying in the opener.

The striker fired home in the second half after Ivan Sproule’s corner kick was headed into the box by Mark Haughey, and Waterworth volleyed home to send the home crowd delerious.

Bates then lapped the applause from the home supporters with a stunning second.

It arrived in the 73rd minute when Stephen Lowry picked out Bates and after tricking his way past his marker, he drilled he ball into the bottom corner.

The Blues have defeated teams from the Faroes on three occasions since 2012 and it appears Runavik will be their next victims.
