COLERAINE 0 CLIFTONVILLE 0
Coleraine and Cliftonville had to settle for a share of the spoils as the two sides cancelled each other out in an entertaining game at The Showgrounds.
It was the visitors who made all the early running in the match as Stephen Garrett tested Michael Doherty from distance, before the ‘keeper was alert to thwart an effort from Chris Curran following a neat passage of play from the visitors.
Coleraine’s best chance arrived on 13 minutes as Ruairi Harkin found the run of Darren McCauley, but the attacker was denied after a good save from Peter Burke.
On the half hour mark, Gerard Lyttle’s side nearly made the breakthrough as Curran had a rasping shot superbly saved. Moments later, a corner from James Knowles was picked up by Martin Donnelly and his shot cannoned off the post and out to safety.
The Bannsiders thought they had taken the lead on 59 minutes as Harkin’s cross was headed home by McCauley but he was adjudged to have been in an offside position.
At the other end, a sweet delivery from Martin Donnelly found the head of Ciaran Murray but the danger was averted from Lyndon Kane on the goal line.
The Bannsiders were creating chances despite not having much possession and James McLaughlin had a shot saved from Burke. However, Oran Kearney’s men had the best chance with 10 minutes to go as Lyons was sent clean through but he hit his effort wide as both sides drew a blank.
