The Coleraine juggernaut continues apace as they swept Warrenpoint aside with consummate ease to make it nine league games without defeat while condemning the home side to their tenth league loss on the bounce.

The visitors took the lead with the first opportunity of the match after just three minutes of play when James McLaughlin took his tally to 12 for the season with a clever finish.

Ruairi Harkin slid the ball through to Darren McCauley inside the Warrenpoint penalty area on the right and with time and space, he was able to pick out McLaughlin who chested home at the near post.

Warrenpoint did threaten briefly shortly afterwards when Conor McDonald played the ball wide on the left to Mark Hughes but he shot over from the edge of the box. Hughes then dragged his effort from 20 yards just wide on ten minutes as the hosts tried to rally.

However, it was Oran Kearney’s men who always looked the more likely to score again and after Jamie McGonigle had shot straight at Aaron Shanahan in the ‘Point goal, McLaughlin almost doubled the lead with a volley from just inside the area that flew narrowly wide of the right hand post.

The striker then delayed his shot on 18 minutes, allowing John Boyle to get back and make a superb block before Warrenpoint almost levelled at the other end three minutes before the interval.

Liam Bagnal swung in a corner from the right that Jordan Dane headed into the mix for McDonald to head goalwards. His effort was clawed away by Michael Doherty, only out to Mark Hughes just outside the box, but once he again he blazed just over through a crowd of players.

The Bannsiders then doubled their lead two minutes later with another well-worked goal that originated down their right hand side.

This time Johnny Watt set McGonigle racing free down the flank and the youngster neatly tucked the ball back inside for the onrushing Ian Parkhill to fire home past Shanahan at the near post from ten yards. It was almost three before the break when captain Howard Beverland got on the end of Neil McCafferty’s corner only for his goalbound header to be deflected wide in the stoppage time.

It took just seven minutes of the second half for Coleraine to go three in front as the rain began to lash down at Milltown. Parkhill’s cross was helped on by McLaughlin and McCauley, who scored a hat-trick last week against Portadown, finished to make it 3-0 to the away side.

Parkhill then made it four with 13 minutes remaining with a sensational run and finish down the right to put the icing on the cake for Oran Kearney’s side.
