Nine man Dungannon Swifts were beaten by a Glenavon team who won only their second home game of the league campaign at Mourneview Park.

Glenavon thought they had gone in front on six minutes, but referee Mervyn Smyth ruled that Eoin Bradley’s goal shouldn’t stand due to an offside after Andy Hall had crossed, following a one-two with Braniff.

The Swifts took the lead on 17 minutes when Jonny Tuffey fumbled a long punt upfield by Andy Coleman, allowing the Tyrone side’s captain, Ryan Harpur, to stroke the ball into an empty net.

But the hosts were level just five minutes later when Kevin Braniff cooly slotted away a penalty after Bradley had been brought down by David McCullough.

The Lurgan Blues protested that they should have had a second spot kick two minutes later when Joel Cooper was caught up between Armstrong and David McCullough.

Matt Hazley forced a fine save from Tuffey just before the break, but Glenavon got in front through Kris Lindsay, who connected with a Hall cross to score his second goal in as many games.

Bradley appeared to be having no luck with decisions going against him, firstly when he had another goal ruled out following a foul against Dougie Wilson, and later when the same player appeared to bring him down on the edge of the box.

The Swifts’ could have levelled when Wilson chanced his arm with a low free kick from 30 yards which hit the side netting.

Kevin Braniff could have killed the game off at the other end just after the hour mark when he headed a cross from Andy McGrory wide of Coleman’s goal at the back post.

The third goal did come after Harpur brought down McGrory in the middle of their half, earning a booking for his troubles. From the resulting free kick Kyle Buckley floated in the ball for James Singleton to head home.

Things went from bad to worse for the visitors when Wilson received a straight edge card after bringing Bradley down on the edge of the box eight minutes from the end.

And the Swifts were reduced to nine men when Jamie Glackin got his marching orders after he tackled Singleton from behind in stoppage time.
