Jamie Mulgrew admits next month’s testimonial game against Rangers will be a “dream come true”.
It was officially confirmed on Wednesday that Linfield will welcome Mark Warburton’s side to Windsor Park on Saturday, September 3.
The glamour friendly has been a long time in the making, but now 30-year-old Blues stalwart Mulgrew is looking forward to stepping out against a club he has supported since childhood.
“I have followed Rangers all my life, so for Mark Warburton to bring his squad to Windsor to play in my testimonial is unbelievable,” Mulgrew said.
“We have been trying to get Rangers over for quite some time, but it always proved difficult to tie down a date that suited both clubs.
“Thankfully we managed to get a date that both clubs could commit to, and it is a dream come true for me.”
Mulgrew – who signed for Linfield in June 2005 – has made over 430 appearances for the club.
His loyal stint with the Blues was recognised by a testimonial year last season, and next month he will be honoured by the visit of Rangers.
“Mark Warburton is expected to bring a strong squad over to Belfast. They play Celtic the following week and he wants a competitive warm-up game,” Mulgrew added.
“There is a buzz around Rangers since they returned to the Scottish Premiership, so we can’t wait for them to come over.”
Tickets for the game are priced at £15 Adults and £10 Concession. These will be available online from Ticketmaster and from all usual Ticketmaster outlets. South Stand tickets will also be on sale from the Linfield Superstore at Windsor Park. Ticket sales will commence from 10am on Thursday morning.
