The goals were rare highlights during a disappointing game played in freezing conditions.

Burns blazed over in the 30th minute, while at the other end Ryan Campbell fired just wide of the post for the Mallards on 35 minutes.

The home fans finally had something to cheer four minutes after the break when Burns forced home Kirk Millar’s corner, the ball bobbling into the net from seven yards.

Mark Stafford was denied by Ross Glendinning in the 93rd minute, just before Linfield made it 3-0.

Waterworth completed the scoring with virtually the last kick of the game, the striker racing clear before coolly slotting past McCusker.
