The 30-year-old fell ill after returning to his club Motherwell from international duty last month.

As part of his rehabilitation the Fir Park club had previously confirmed Carson would "require ongoing treatment".

Part of that process means he is unable to play for six months, ruling him out of the remainder of the campaign.
