Carrick Rangers’ Niall Currie keen to get over the line and secure senior ‘dream’

Niall Currie’s Carrick Rangers kicked off the campaign tipped for a season-long relegation dogfight but stand with senior safety in sight thanks to a superb acclimation to the Danske Bank Premiership.

Rangers welcome a Dungannon Swifts side searching for welcome points to extend the advantage over the main relegation candidates, Warrenpoint Town and Institute.

A six-point lead off the drop zone with a game in hand offers a measure of security but remains a perilous position compared to that of a Rangers side bolstered by a recent draw with Glentoran and defeat of Ballymena United.

“I’ve told the boys it’s a one-game-at-a-time scenario the rest of this season and we target as many points as we possibly can,” said Rangers boss Currie. “That’s our challenge ahead.

“The boys have been fantastic all season and Dungannon is just another game to look forward to facing.

“We know this is a 50-50 game and it will be whoever can take their chances.

“Kris Lindsay (Swifts boss) has them looking good again.

“But we have done super the last couple of games so go into it knowing we can win this.

“We are within touching distance of the dream we had at the start of the season but the job is not done.

“And we will fight for every point we get, like we have all season.”

Rangers recently received an off-the-field boost thanks to confirmation by Mid and East Antrim Borough Council of a £69,000 funding lift off SportNI to help upgrade the Carrick ground’s safety features.
