The Glentoran midfielder has penned a three-year deal after opting for Forest despite interest from several other clubs seeking his signature, including Celtic and West Bromich Albion.

The teenage prospect came through the ClubNI programme, which has laid the groundwork for a number of talented youth players across Northern Ireland to become full-time footballers.

McDonnell, 16, also underwent trials with Rangers, Sheffield United and FC Groningen.

Earlier this summer, Charlie Lindsay left Glentoran to join Rangers on a three-year deal.
