Stephen Robinson: Coleraine should be proud of their performance

There was a sense of relief for Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson following their penalty shoot-out win over Coleraine on Thursday evening.

The Scottish Premiership side had bossed the first 45 minutes and went in 2-0 up at the break.

But a rejuvenated Coleraine side fought back in the second half to level the game and take it into extra-time and penalties.

Trevor Carson proved to be the hero for The Steelmen with three spot kick saves.

Speaking after the game Robinson was full of praise for his opponents but happy his side had got the job done in the end.

“A very difficult night, we said we would win it any way we could,” said Robinson.

“We were 2-0 up and comfortable, but you have to credit Coleraine.

“They made our night very difficult, there was nothing in it in the end.

“I have to credit our lads as well, especially after going down to 10 men.

“But I certainly have to give a lot of credit to Coleraine, they should be very proud of their performance.

“Ultimately, we got what we wanted and that was getting through to the next round.”
