Title charge is far from over insists Glens chief McDermott

Glentoran head coach Mick McDermott says his side’s title quest is far from over despite still searching for a first win of the season.

The Glens came within minutes of picking up their first three points of the season against rivals Linfield on Tuesday, only for Jimmy Callacher’s late equaliser to keep their agonising wait to go on.

McDermott though says there’s still plenty of football to be played.

He said: “There is a long, long way to go. Even if we lost I don’t think it would have been over because I see the spells we have put in in certain games apart from the performance against Glenavon which was disjointed when we tried a different system.

“When you look at the schedule that came out and we saw our first five games and we knew they were going to be tough.

“We will be there. I have no doubt about that because I know the quality we have.

“The January transfer window is coming up and I’m not even looking. That’s the reality. I see in training every day what we have. We had five players out in our first game, three the next and we couldn’t get our team out. Now we are all healthy.

“I read that Cliftionvile have eight out, Coleraine have six out and so on, we are 100 per cent healthy.

“Last season we had the lowest injury rates in the whole league and I was looking forward to the last seven games last season because we were hitting them with a full squad.

“We know there are games coming thick and fast but we are going to be hitting them with a full squad.”
