We just have to get on with it says Mick McDermott

Glentoran may have slipped to another defeat on Saturday, but understandably the thoughts of Head Coach Mick McDermott were focused on Bobby Burns.

The Northern Ireland international, who is on loan at The Oval, suffered a suspected double leg break midway through the second half at The Showgrounds.

The Glens struggled to impose themselves in the game, but McDermott feels his side are being targeted, but he added that it is something they will have to deal with.

“It’s a serious injury, not a good one, especially for a young man,” said the Glens Head Coach.

“Most definitely [we’re being targeted] but look, I’m not complaining about it.

“If that’s how it’s going to be, that’s how it’s going to be and we’ll get on with it.

“It looked a bad tackle at the time and you could hear the crack.

“For a young international it’s really bad.

“You could see the reaction of the players and it’s understandable their heads go.

“It happened to me once when a player broke their leg in the warm-up beside me and it’s hard to get it out of your head.”

The visitors struggled to create many clear cut chances against Coleraine.

They did though manage to pull a goal back through Jay Donnelly in the closing stages and McDermott praised his side for keeping going.

“After the red card, we didn’t give up,” he said.

“We pushed and pushed and I think Jamie McDonagh made a big difference with his deliveries into the box, something we’d been missing in the first half.

“That’s the positive to take out of the game.

“The first five minutes and the last five minutes of the first half are massive and we conceded in both.

“When we look at the three league games, I think they’ve only conceded three shots combined but to be fair to Coleraine they had chances, but so did we.

“If you don’t take chances you get punished. We are conceding bad goals but there are things we can work on.

“Everyone has their assignment; no one gets blamed but someone is accountable if they know hat they have to do. It’s something we have to work on.

“Coleraine are one of several teams who are really strong on set-pieces but we can’t work on things all week and then have people not do what was asked of them.

“We didn’t do enough and they did what they had to do better than us.”

With only one point from a possible nine McDermott conceded his side need to start picking up wins, but he has faith in them doing so.

“We’ve got to start picking up points and we will,” he said.

“We’ve got enough quality and belief in the group and no one is sulking.

“They are suffering but there is no sulking.

“Boys put their hands up when they din’t get it right but I know we’ll put a string of results together.”
