More importantly, a significant sum of money was raised to help Farren who is battling against an aggressive brain tumour.

The 33-year-old requires specialist treatment in Germany which costs in the region of £25,000.

“We have raised over £7,000 tonight which is fantastic for Mark and his family,” Glenavon boss Hamilton said.

“It is a great effort from both clubs , especially considering this game was only arranged a week ago.

“Full credit to everyone involved, from all the players, officials and the supporters who came along.

“Special mention to the Derry City fans who made the journey tonight, and also the Glenavon supporters who donated. It was a fantastic occasion. It was good see Mark here. He has been through so much, so it means a lot that he came along tonight.

“We just have to hope and pray that he gets the treatment he needs that will either prolong or save his life.

“We are all hoping and praying that his situation improves.”
