It promises to be a game with goals galore when De La Salle College takes on St Malachy’s College in the final of the Danske Bank Senior Cup at the New Grosvenor Stadium on Thursday morning (11am).

De La Salle are the most successful school in the history of the Senior Cup having lifted the trophy on eight occasions with the most recent success coming two years ago while St Malachy’s only success was back in 1994.

De La Salle has scored an incredible 14 goals in their four games to the final while conceding three goals.

St Malachy’s has not been so prolific but has still found the net 10 times while letting in only 1 goal.

De La Salle began their campaign by trouncing neighbours CBS 5-1. St Mary’s provided sterner opposition in the second round and De La Salle had to pull out all the stops for a hard fought 2-0 success.

After thrashing Fort Hill 4-0 Laurelhill provided the opposition in the semi final.

It looked as if it would be another high scoring success as De La Salle raced into a three goal lead but Laurelhill came storming back with two goals and in the end De La Salle supporters were glad to hear the final whistle.

St Malachy’s began with a comfortable 2-0 win at Glengormley and then accounted for Our Lady and St Patrick’s College 3-0.

The Antrim Road side then turned on the style in the semi final to dispose of St Patrick’s Bearnageeha 5-1.
