Linfield manager Warren Feeney believes defender Sean Ward can continue playing football for another decade.
Ward – who joined the Blues in June 2013 – has signed a two-year contract extension with the Windsor Park club.
Feeney believes the 31-year-old will be an integral part of his plans next season and beyond.
“I am delighted to get Wardy tied down. He is a great athlete,” Feeney said.
“He is an experienced player, and I know there were a few rumours going around that he had signed for another club.
“But he has been honest all along, and he said he always wanted to stay at Linfield. It was an easy deal to complete.
“Players like Sean don’t come around very often and we are delighted to tie him down for another two years.
“He could play to he’s 40. He’s an athlete and can play in a number of positions.
“He has played in midfield for me and right-back and centre-half. You need versatile players like that. I am trying to build a team here and you need experienced players. He wants to play football.”
