Derry City skipper Ryan McBride is the latest player to join what appears to be a never ending injury list at the Brandywell on Friday night.

And with Sligo Rovers the visitors on Friday (7.45pm), team boss Peter Hutton must plan without several key players.

The club’s popular skipper limped off the pitch on Tuesday night with a hamstring problem and now joins Patrick McEleney, Philip Lowry and Stephen Dooley on the list.

“We had 13 players in the treatment room on Wednesday, including three of our prominent Under-19’s who are on the fringes of the first team panel, so we certainly do not have our sorrows to seek at the moment,” lamented Hutton.

“Gerard Doherty has returned to training this week, but he still has a back complaint; Ryan (McBride) has a hamstring issue while Philip Lowry (knee) and Patrick McEleney (groin) are also out.

“Add in the fact that Stephen Dooley has yet to make an appearance this season so it’s fair to suggest that the main spine of our team could be missing against Sligo.

“Unfortunately we just have to get on with it. Since the start of the campaign we have been keeping our fingers crossed that injuries and suspensions would have been kept to a minimum.

“However, while we’ve been okay with suspensions, the same cannot be said of our injury list which has been horrendous.

“We’ve not had the rub of the green but, as I’ve said in the past, a window of opportunity now exists for others to step up to the mark and help us.”
