Crusaders boss Stephen Baxter is ready to protect teenage winger Gavin Whyte from any summer burnout.
Whyte will travel to England on Sunday to spend a week with Barclays Premier League giants Everton.
Baxter insists the trip to Merseyside will be Whyte’s only trial this summer as the player needs a rest.
“Gavin travels out on Sunday and will spend a week with Everton. He will get a look around and sample life with a Barclays Premier League club,” Baxter said.
“There are a number of clubs interested in Gavin, but Everton have shown the most interest and made the most effort. So he will go over there.
“He played over 35 games for us last season and he needs a period of rest.
“The players only get a six-week break before it all starts up again for the European games and then the start of the domestic season.
“So we won’t be shipping him out on trial to this club and that club. Everton will be his only trial and then he will rest up.”
Whyte was named Young Player of the Year at Monday’s Northern Ireland Football Writers’ Association annual dinner.
The winger played a pivotal role in Crusaders’ title-winning season.
“Gavin was superb for us and it is no surprise that clubs are looking at him,” Baxter added.
