Warrenpoint pulled off a much-needed win thanks to a Ciaran O’Connor brace as they upset the form book to get the better of league leaders Portadown at Milltown.
They were two ahead at the break and showed maturity to keep it tight after Gary Breen had halved the deficit midway through the second half.
Warrenpoint had most of the ball in the opening exchanges and almost took the lead as early as the fourth minute with only the woodwork keeping the match scoreless.
A swift break from the home side saw Stephen Hughes sweep the ball the right to Ciaran O’Connor and the striker, on loan from Dundalk, lashed in a fierce drive that appeared to come off the inside of the right hand post.
Garry Breen then did excellently to block Stephen Moan’s follow-up from close range.
It didn’t take long for the basement side to take a deserved lead on 20 minutes after what was a very promising start against their in-form opponents.
The lively Stephen Hughes wriggled into space down the right byline before drilling a low ball across the six-yard box and past the keeper where the unmarked O’Connor was on hand to sidefoot into the empty net.
The visitors nearly levelled four minutes later when McMahon crashed in a stinging volley from inside the box on the right that was batted away by Parr for a corner.
Four minutes before the interval, Warrenpoint did double their lead and it was O’Connor who was on hand to grab his second of the game.
This time it was another Hughes brother, Daniel, who did the spade work, as he crossed from the right and O’Connor was unmarked to guide his header back across goal and past Miskelly.
After O’Connor had seen his low drive pushed away by Miskelly on the hour mark, the Ports gave themselves a lifeline as they halved the deficit four minutes later.
Casement curled in a precision free-kick from the right and Breen climbed highest to power a header past Parr.
