GLENAVON 2 WARRENPOINT 2
An entertaining second half saw both sides get a deserved share of the spoils at Mourneview Park.
The hosts got in front on nine minutes when Eoin Bradley passed out wide to Ciaran Caldwell. The midfielder took a touch before squaring the ball for Kevin Braniff who made no mistake, scoring into an empty net.
That wind was causing problems in the second half and Shane McCabe was unfortunate not to score whose swerving shot was plucked out of the air by Parr
Warrenpoint restored parity on 67 minutes when McCabe was caught out as Glenavon were on the attack. Town had four men against Glenavon’s two, with McGuigan feeding Conor McDonald and allowing him to slot under the goalkeeper.
Then, from nowhere, Stephen Hughes chanced his arm from 30 yards with a shot against the wind. It crashed off the post, but then rebounded back off McGrath’s shoulder and crept in over the line to make it 2-1.
Glenavon pulled the scores level again thanks to a rare goal from McCabe. A scramble in the box saw the ball fall kindly for the midfielder; he kept his cool and scored with a low drive.
The final few minutes saw a flurry of chances at both ends, the best of which was headed against the bar by Marshall from a cross by substitute Mark Sykes.
