Darren Clarke lies 14 shots off the lead at the Dimension Data Pro-Am in South Africa after a second round of 76.
The score leaves Clarke – who was this week named European Ryder Cup captain for 2016 – on three over for the tournament and 14 behind leader Darren Fichardt.
The Northern Ireland golfer’s round included a triple-bogey six at the short eighth.
The cut in the South African tournament will take place after Saturday’s third round because of the pro-am format.
Meanwhile, Ballyclare’s Gareth Maybin made the cut at the Indian Open after his one-under 70 left him tied for 25th – 10 behind leader SSP Chawrasia.
Maybin’s round included four birdies, a bogey and a double bogey at the 14th.
Chawrasia is one shot ahead of Bangladesh’s Siddikur Rahman while last year’s Northern Ireland Open winner Joakim Lagergren is sharing third place four shots off the pace with Thailand’s Chapchai Nirat.
