Darren Clarke carded a second round of four-under-par to lie seven shots off the lead at the halfway stage of the Africa Open.

Clarke posted a round of 68 which included six birdies – including four in his first five holes – and two bogeys.

The new European Ryder Cup captain is tied for 24th place on four under.

England’s Matt Ford leads on 11 under, with Eduardo De La Riva one behind.

Meanwhile, Michael Hoey was three shots off the cut mark as a 69 on Friday saw him finish on two over in joint 107th position.

It followed a disappointing 77 in his opening 18 holes.
