Ireland kept alive their hopes of winning the women’s Home International title by drawing 4.5-4.5 with Wales on day two at Royal Wimbledone GC.
The top foursomes pairing remained unchanged from day one with Olivia Mehaffey (RCDL) and Annabel Wilson (Lurgan) getting Ireland on the board early with a 3&2 win,.
The Welsh duo of Katherine O’Connor and Lauren Hollier levelled matters by beating the Irish pair of Chloe Ryan and Maria Dunne 3&2 but Paula Grant (Lisburn) and Julie McCarthy (Forrest Little) made it 2-1 to Ireland by winning 4&3.
Olivia Mehaffey led out the Irish side out in the afternoon singles and dominated from the start going four up through seven holes. Despite losing 11, 13 and 15 she closed out the match in style with a win on 17.
But Ireland won only one other singles tie - Niamh McSherry beating Samanatha Birks by 2&1 after being two up after three holes. The vital half point came from youngster Julie McCarthy, who found herself three down with three to play but levelled the tie.
