Some of biggest names in golf have come out in support of this year’s Bathe NI Irish Junior Open at Killymoon Golf Club from August 24-26.

Ryder Cup stars Sergio Garcia, Rickie Fowler, Justin Rose, Darren Clarke, Padraig Harrington, Paul McGinley and Ian Poulter are backing this junior ‘development’ tournament.

This year’s ‘Bathe NI Irish Junior Open’ will build on the success of last year’s inaugural event.

The tournament attracted 210 entries from across the UK and Ireland in 2014, comprised of the best players in the age groups 6-7, 7-9, 10-12, 13-15, and 16-18.

The event also saw a 36-hole Championship for the 60 lowest handicap competitors which was won by Irish international, Owen Crooks.

This year, the tournament has been extended to three days which will allow over 300 competitors from the ages of 6 - 18 to compete for the different age Championships on offer.

The format for this year’s event will be stroke play and each age category will play from designated tees relevant to their age.

At an entry fee of £15 it is exceptional value considering each competitor receives a goody bag with a value exceeding £30.

This year’s event has been well supported by numerous businesses with Lilac Cancer Care being the main beneficiary.

Speaking at the launch of the Championship, event founder and PGA Professional Michael Gallagher said; “I was left with no option but to extend this year’s event to another day to cope with the high demand.

“This is a testament to the support I have had from the numerous sponsors, officials at Killymoon Golf Club and 2016 PGA of Ireland Captain, Gary Chambers. I would also like to thank Colm Mullan, Bathe NI managing director for coming on board as the main sponsor and to Lilac Cancer Care who will benefit from the event.”
