Graeme McDowell is three shots off the lead held by England’s Daniel Brooks after a second successive 66 at the Scottish Open.
McDowell has endured a frustrating 2015 but is showing signs of a return to form at Gullane GC.
McDowell carded six birdies and two bogeys and is tied for second on eight under par alongside six others, including Shane Lowry and defending champion Justin Rose.
Michael Hoey fired six birdies in a 65, equalling the best round of the day to end the day
Padraig Harringtton is on four under following a 68, but fellow Irishmen Damien McGrane and Paul McGinley will miss the cut.
Lowry, who was in contention for the US Open last month before finishing ninth, also carded his second successive 66 and credited his recent good form to a settled home life.
“I’ve settled down a lot and matured a lot,” said Lowry, who won the 2009 Irish Open while still an amateur.
“Everything in my life is a lot more stable and my golf is reaping the benefits.”
