Irish international Leona Maguire has swapped places with Andrea Lee at the top of the World Amateur Golf rankings. The Co Cavan 20-year-old, a member of the Slieve Russell GC, is currently ranked the number one US college golfer and moved up one place after winning the NCAA South Bend Regional at the weekend. The Duke University student edged out former world number one and teammate Celine Boutier by a shot. Scores of 72, 68 and 72 gave Maguire a four-under-par total of 212. Boutier rises two rankings to world number five. Twin sister Lisa, has moved up 36 places to 814th.
In the men’s rankings, Cormac Sharvin (Ardglass) leads the way, up five spots to 36th following his second runner-up finish in the Irish Amateur Open at Royal Dublin on Sunday.
Gavin Moynihan (The Island) broke into the World Amateur Golf Ranking top 50 after victory in the Irish Amateur Open Championship.
Moynihan was a member of the 2013 Great Britain & Ireland Walker Cup team, and has improved his chances of another appearance in the biennial match with a jump of 21 places to 44th.
