“Ewan who is only 16 years of age was recovering from an injury only three weeks ago.

“He did really work very hard to prepare two new high performance vaults and trained throughout the Easter holidays without a break to prepare for the competition.

“We are all delighted with Ewan’s performance in the under 18 category of the competition, competing on Friday evening and qualifying for the Masters final on Sunday.

“The Masters final is the top eight gymnast gymnasts on each apparatus across all age groups to include the seniors. In the vault final the gymnasts have to perform two different vaults and the final score is the average of the two vaults.”

Ewan is now working towards the Junior European Championships to be held in Bern at the end of May where he will represent Ireland.

Based on Ewan’s results at the weekend he is a very stronger medal contender which would be his ultimate goal as Ireland have never won a medal at the European Championships.
