Andrew Watson was one of the members of the 55 FFF Racing Team who won the Pro-Am Class in the Sepang 12 Hour Endurance Race in a McLaren, also finishing fourth overall.
The Dungannon driver had as his driving partners Alvaro Parente, Andrea Caldarelli and Hiroshi Hamaguchi, with Parente having already raced for the squad during the recent FIA GT World Cup, finishing seventh in Macau.
The race was in the well supported Blancpain GT Series with Audis filling the top three places and Steven Kane from Ballynahinch finished tenth, although his progress was halted as a result of gearbox problems with the number 9 Bentley, which also had Guy Smith and Vincent Abril sharing the driving.
Meanwhile, Derek Daly - a regular competitor in Formula Ford racing at Kirkistown - climbed the ranks to the pinnacle to race in F and now comes news that his son Conor has landed a full season drive for 2016 in the top racing formula in the USA, IndyCars.
Dale Coyne Racing has announced it will field Conor in the 2016 IndyCar Series and dirt-track star Bryan Clauson in the Indianapolis 500.
After racing in GP3 and GP2 between 2011-14, Daly returned to the USA last year and raced in the United SportsCar Championship’s Prototype Challenge class.
He also made four IndyCar starts, and became one of nine drivers to appear for Dale Coyne Racing. Daly starts testing one of the Honda powered cars this week.
“It is crazy to think about it, I have been at IndyCar races since birth - it is a dream come true, an incredible opportunity,” said Daly jnr.
It has been announced that CKH Environmental will be coming on board as associate sponsor for the Historic category of the Clonakilty Blackpudding Irish Tarmac Rally Championship for 2016.
The Cork-based company’s MD is Colman Hegarty, who is the current Clerk of the Course for the Cork 20 International Rally and is also a director of the T.R.O.A.
David Gray, Chairman of the Tarmac Rally Organisers Association, said: “We are delighted to have CKH Environmental come on board and for their support for the Historic Championship in 2016, which is continuing to grow in popularity.”
