Sophie Benton is preparing for next week’s European Field Archery Championships in Poland.
Benton – who hails from near Carrowdore – will compete for Team GB in the Junior Ladies Barebow in Rzeszow.
At the World Championships last year Benton won through to the gold medal final and only narrowly missed out on victory, coming home with silver for Great Britain.
The World Championships are held every two years with the European Championships filling in the gap.
Twenty-one countries are represented this year from across Europe and no doubt the competition will be as tough as ever.
Sophie (17) will compete as a Junior with archers aged from 15 to 20.
She goes with a good season under her belt having won all of the Field Archery competitions she entered this year – and now holding all five Northern Ireland records for the discipline
“I’m really honoured to have qualified and been selected by Archery GB,” Benton said.
“I’m really looking forward to shooting in Poland and meeting competitors from all the different countries.
“As long as I go and feel I did my best then I’ll be more than happy.”
