ATHLETICS: Breege Connolly inside Oylmpic qualifying standard at London Marathon

Belfast athlete Breege Connolly was inside the Olympic qualifying standard at the London Marathon on Sunday.

Connolly, originally from Leitrim, ran a time of two hours 37 minutes and 29 seconds to go under the Rio games benchmark of two hours and 42 minutes.

She finished outside the top 20 in the women’s race at the renowned event in the British capital and improved on her previous best by almost two minutes, achieved in London two years ago.

Northern Ireland’s Greg Roberts, who runs for City of Derry Spartans, ran a time of two hours 24 minutes and five seconds in the men’s race.
