One of Northern Ireland’s top road races, the Laganside 10K promoted by North Belfast Harriers, has been launched.
The event on September 6 from Ormeau Park includes the Northern Ireland Championship.
The Laganside caters for all standards of runner from internationals and club runners to joggers and is an ideal warm-up for the Belfast Half Marathon a fortnight later.
There will be a generous prize list covering all individual groups and teams plus goodie bags with awards provided by Northern Belfast and Pure Running. There will be chip timing provided by ChampionChip Ireland.
The 10K participants will receive a bespoke medal featuring the ‘Ring of Thanksgiving’ based on the statue on the Laganside known colloquial ‘Nuala with the Hula’.
Entries will be capped at 1,000 with those entering before July 31 having their names printed on their numbers.
David Seaton, Chairman of Athletics Northern Ireland, said: “Athletics Northern Ireland is delighted to give its full support to the North Belfast organised Laganside 10K.
“This popular and professionally run event has long been a favourite with club and fun runners alike and has attracted some of the Province’s top runners, male and female.
“I have no doubt the 2015 event will be another success for the organisers and their generous sponsors.”
Last year Eddie McGinley won from Scott Rankin, Paul Barbour and Brian Campbell with Kerry O’Flaherty taking the Ladies from Gladys Ganiel and Louise Smith.
There will also be a one-mile children’s fun run for boys and girls, which will take place completely within the grounds of the park.
