ATHLETICS: March date confirmed for East Down’s Jimmy Ten Road Race

East Down’s top event of the year, the Jimmy’s Ten Road Race, will be held on Sunday, March 15, starting at 11am.

The race, which always attracts a huge field, will start this time outside the club’s new headquarters in the Ballydugan Industrial Estate, Downpatrick.

The race has been dominated in the past by Joe McAllister with six wins and Paul Rowan with five victories. The host club will have a very strong challenger this time in Brendan Teer.

There is a generous prize list thanks to chief sponsors MB McGrady and Co Chartered Accountants plus local businesses.

The top man and woman will receive £250 plus there will be £50 bonuses if the records of 30 minutes 20 for men and 34 minutes 17 for women are broken. The prize list will cover all age groups.

Last year’s winner was Joe McAllister just head of Eddie McGinley with Gladys Ganiel-O’Neill taking the ladies.
