There was plenty of festive cheer at Alpha Badminton Club at the weekend at the club’s Annual Christmas Family Fun Tournament, where Jack and Joanne Livingstone lifted one of the titles on offer.
They progressed through the group stages unbeaten with a total of 81 points, although two pairs Stuart and David McCollam and Stevie and Conor Galway lost their respective clashes with the eventual winners on a knife-edged 21-20 scoreline.
The final between the Livingstones and the McCollams could hardly have been closer with the former pair edging through 21-18.
In their round-robin section the Livingstones had also recorded a 21-16 wins over Chloe Woods and Paul Greenfield and a 21-14 defeat of Trevor Woods and daughter Paige.
Dan and Kent Smith topped their section which included former Irish international doubles specialist Graham Henderson, who struck up a formidable new partnership with daughter Emma as they were edged into third place by Sophia and Michelle Conn.
In the final their opponents Jamie and Pam Stephenson had come through unbeaten in their section beating Ben and Mercie Alexander 21-19 and Josh and Stephen Armstrong 21-14, but they were unable to find the form which took them to the top of their section and finished worthy runners-up.
Jonathan and Peter Hemphill and Fabian and Michelle Conn were two further winners overcoming Gavin and Nathan McClure and Ella and Bobby Cheung respectively.
