Andrew Leckey walked off with the top prize in the 1st Donegore Bowls Club’s annual rinks tournament.
The St Mark’s (Portadown) man climaxed a great week by skipping his side to an impressive 10-5 win over Darren Witherspoon’s combinational from All Saints, Larne.
“We had 53 rinks on the starting grid,” said organiser Majorie Hamilton. “It was another great success. We are all indebted to everyone who supported the competition in terms of participation, umpiring or anyone who made even a small made any contribution.”
Leckey narrowly defeated Graham McKee’s Rosemount rink 9-7 at the semi final state, while Witherspoon edged out Ballylennon’s John Quinn 9-7.
The eight rinks that made it through to the finals were: P Canning (Conlig), R Hunter (Finvoy), A Leckey (St Mark’s, Portadown), G McKee (Rosemount), C Starten (Abbey Presbyterian), J Quinn (Ballylennon), D Witherspoon (All Saints, Larne).
Meanwhile, entries are still being accepted for the popular St Matthew’s, Richhill, Open pairs tournament.
The competition will get under way on Monday, January 19 and played throughout the week, with Saturday (24) pencilled in for the finals.
