Brian Campbell and Anne Fitzpatrick came out tops in the final rankings of the Pure Running - ChampionChip Ireland Half Marathon Series which has just been completed.
The ten races from March to August attracted a total of 7938 with Omagh 2154, Larne 1504 and Lisburn 1453 having the biggest entry. Fourteen men and three ladies finished every race with Angus McCready from Up and Runners having done all 57 races in the seven year history of the series.
Gideon Kimosop of Project Africa with 65:15 set at Omagh and Breege Connolly with her record 76:15 in the Larne event had the fastest times.
The series winners were decided by the best accumulated five times. Campbell with three victories easily took the overall from Gary Henderson and Don Travers and was also top M35.
Travers took the M40 from Chris Denton, Henderson and Mark Walker led the M45 with Brian Edgar M50, David Clarke M55, Brian Todd M60, Pat O’Driscoll M65 and Jack Carberry M70 leading their groups. The Open class went to Brian Young ahead of Gerard Heaney and Greg Lucy.
Anne Fitzpatrick F35 led the overall Ladies from top F40 Diane Watson. Roisin Byrne F45, Irene Clements F50, Patricia Brown F55 and Mary Mackin F60 took their classes with Helen Perry leading the Open.
There is action tonight on two fronts. Acorns AC are holding the Mighty Oaks 5K starting at Meadowbank Sports Arena Magherafelt at 7.30pm while the Killyleagh 5 Miles will go from the Bridge Centre also at 7.30pm.
