Chloe Watson’s bid for back-to-back successes in the WIBC Women’s Under-25 singles championship ended at the semi final stage at Coatbridge in Scotland.
The Belfast player again battled her way through to the semi final of of the tournament, but agonisingly lost out on a tie-break to Amy Williams, of Wales.
Ironically, it was Williams who Watson defeated to claim the title 12 months earlier and, even though she out-scored her opponent over the two sets, it was the Welsh player who edged through.
Watson skipped through the opening set, winning 11-3, before Williams hit back (10-6) in the second.
She went on to defeat Scotland’s Clarie Walker in straight sets in the final.
Results: WIBC Ladies Under-25 singles, semi finals: C Walker (Scotland) bt C McLean (Scotland) 10-5, 2-8, 1-0; C Watson (Ireland) lost to A Williams (Wales) 11-3, 6-10, 0-1. Final: Walker lost to Williams 3-10, 3-7.
