County Antrim primed to host short mat pairs

Another bumper is expected for the County Antrim Indoor Bowl Club’s round robin short mat pairs tournament, to be staged on October 14-15.

There is top prize of £150 up for grabs for the winners, with the runners-up pocketing £90.

There is also vouchers for the losing semi finalists and quarter finalists.

“The short mat competitions proved to be a big success last season,” said Stadium manager Rod Coleman.

“Although the area is a hotbed for the short mat game, the interest comes from all over the country.

“We are hoping to play eight groups of four per night, with a three game guarantee.

“Section winners would then play a further game on the night.”

Entry fee is £10, with the finals pencilled on for October 16.

Meanwhile Ballymoney’s Aaron Tennant and Stuart Bennett will represent Ireland in the European Championships in Israel on October 11-16.

And, Ballymena player Andy Duncan will feature in the prestigious Hong Kong Bowls Classic along with Cookstown’s Mark Wilson, on November 1-15.
