Declan Reed is the man to beat at Ulster Masters in Coleraine

Declan Reed leads a star studded line up for Saturday’s Northern Ireland and Ulster Masters and Intermediate Cross Country Championships at the University of Ulster in Coleraine.

The City of Derry Spartan is the reigning Masters champion and recently retained his Irish title he is also the Northern Ireland Senior title holder and is in the form to complete another double.

Pauric McKinney, a former winner, recently took the M50 titles at both the Masters International and the Irish Championships and can make the rostrum along with Ciaran Doherty a former International winner.

Ivor Toner, fifth for the last two seasons, Alan Bogle, Andrew Considine and Neil Carty will all take high places along with Colin Roberts and Gareth Lyons. City of Derry, Letterkenny and North Belfast should be top teams.

Conan McCaughey and Chris Madden look to be favourites for the Intermediates. Conan from Derry City Track Club was second last year and is a former Novice champion while Chris from City of Lisburn sixth last time came second in the Bobby Rea event.

Aaron Meharg, Pius McIntyre, Neil Johnston, Conor Christie and Greg Lucy will all go well along with Annadale stars Mark Wright, Steve McGrory and Paul Carroll.

The Ladies Masters and Inters will be on the track at the same time. Louise Smith of North Belfast and Fionnuala Diver Letterkenny the top two Masters twelve months ago will be prominent again along with Omagh star Julie Butler the winner at the Dub.

Roisin Hughes, former senior champion Suzanne Higgins, Sonia Knox, Anne Paul, Jackie McMonagle, Hannah Shields and Jodie Smith are others to consider along with Ann Terek and Shileen O’Kane.

Karen Alexander of Acorns faces Newcastle’s Shalene McMurray and Joanne Mills in the Intermediates. Alex Kirk, Natalie Hall and Sharon Leetch will all challenge in that race..

The M65s at the same time can go to Terry Eakin from Irish M70 champion Gerry Lynch and Davy Seaton. The timetable is 1.15pm Mens Masters 8K; 2pm Women Masters and Intermediates and M65s 4K; 2.30pm Mens Intermediates 10K.
